SUPERNOVAE 2010hf IN MCG +09-11-21

G. H. Marion and P. Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics
(CfA), on behalf of the CfA Supernova Group, report that a low-signal-to-noise
spectrum (range 360-740 nm) of 2010hf (cf. CBET 2432), obtained on Sept. 2 UT
by P. Berlind with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST),
shows 2010hf to be a type-IIb supernova. Cross-correlation with a library of
supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin
and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) provides the best fit to spectra from SN
1993J obtained a few days after maximum light.

SUPERNOVA 2010hh IN NGC 6524

S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports that K. Kadota (Ageo, Japan) obtained
a co-added image (limiting mag 18.6) of 2010hh (cf. CBETs 2435, 2440) from
twelve 120-s unfiltered CCD frames taken around Sept. 3.675 UT with a 0.25-m
f/5 reflector (+ SBIG ST-9E camera), yielding mag 17.7 and position R.A. =
17h59m18s.39, Decl. = +45d52'32".1 (equinox 2000.0).

J. M. Silverman, J. Choi, A. V. Filippenko, and F. J. D. Serduke,
University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of a CCD spectrum
(range 340-970 nm), obtained on SepT. 3 UT with the 3-m Shane reflector (+
Kast) at Lick Observatory, shows that 2010hh is a type-Ia supernova near
maximum brightness. After removal of the host-galaxy recession velocity of
5698 km/s (Falco et al. 1999, PASP 111, 438), the absorption minimum of the
Si II 635.5-nm line is found to be blueshifted by about 12600 km/s. The Si
II line at 597 nm is quite strong, as is Ti II absorption around 420-430 nm,
suggesting that 2010hh is subluminous like SN 1991bg (e.g. Filippenko et al.
1992, AJ 104, 1543), though perhaps not quite as extreme.

SUPERNOVAE 2010hk AND 2010ho

G. H. Marion and P. Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics
(CfA), on behalf of the CfA Supernova Group, report on spectroscopic
observations (range 340-740 nm) of 2010hk (cf. CBET 2439) obtained on Sept. 4
UT by P. Berlind and of 2010ho (cf. CBET 2445) on Sept. 5 UT by M. Calkins
with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST). Cross-
correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova
Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) shows
that both 2010hk and 2010ho are normal type-Ia supernovae at a few days past
maximum light.

APPARENT NOVA IN M31: M31N 2010-09a

Syuichi Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports the discovery by Koichi Itagaki
(Teppo-cho, Yamagata) of an apparent nova (mag 17.2) in M31 on unfiltered CCD
frames (limiting magnitude 20.5) taken on Sept. 4.552 UT using a 0.60-m f/5.7
reflector (+ Bitran BT-214E camera). The new object is located at R.A. =
0h42m23s.32 +/- 0s.03, Decl. = +42o17'08".6 +/- 0".3 (equinox 2000.0).
Additional magnitudes for M31N 2010-09a measured by Itagaki: 1986 Nov. 27,
[21.0 (Digitized Sky Survey red plate); 2007 Oct. 13, 20.0; 2010 Aug. 21.631,
[19.0; Sept. 1.666, 17.8 (pre-discovery); 5.490, 18.1 (limiting mag 20.5).
The discovery image is visible at http://www.k-itagaki.jp/images/pn-m-31.jpg.
Nakano also forwards a confirming report by T. Yusa (Osaki) on Sept. 5.500,
in which an unfiltered CCD image taken with a 0.30-m f/9.9 Cassegrain telescope
(+ BSTL-1001E camera) shows M31N 2010-09a at mag 17.5 and with position end
figures 23s.29, 08".9.

SUPERNOVA 2010hp IN MCG -02-01-52

G. H. Marion and P. Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics
(CfA), on behalf of the CfA Supernova Group, report that a spectrum (range
340-740 nm) of 2010hp (cf. CBET 2446) was obtained on Sept. 8 UT by P. Berlind
with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST). Cross-correlation
with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code
(SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) shows that 2010hp is a type-II
supernova more than 30 days past maximum light.
